BARROW county councillors have given £5,000 to the Keep Our Future Afloat Campaign (KOFAC) which aims to secure the future of naval ship building in the town.

The local committee’s financial contribution helps KOFAC secure other funding sources and champions the case for building up to four ‘Successor’ submarines to follow on from the Vanguard Class and delivery of seven Astute Class submarines for the Royal Navy.

Cllr Kevin Hamilton, chair of Barrow Local Committee, said: “The Keep Our Future Afloat Campaign continues to play a vital role in highlighting the massive importance of the Successor programme to our local economy. The local committee recognises the campaign’s hugely significant work for our area, so councillors were delighted to provide financial support for a third year.”
