A KENDAL-based engineering firm has announced it is to shed jobs in its UK operations.
Bosses at Furmanite, a Texan company which specialises in industrial maintenance and has its UK headquarters in Shap Road, say they need to reduce costs due to a ‘difficult trading year in 2009’.
The job losses are expected to occur across the UK, but depots at Stallingbrough and manufacturing operations in Scunthorpe, are likely to be most affected. A consultation process with employees began yesterday.
A management statement said: “This action is a last resort. Furmanite is a people company and its strength is its people. However, forecast demand for its range of services, products and skills will not allow the Company to sustain its costs at the current levels.”
