A NEW mini-market showcasing local produce has been unveiled at a South Lakeland garage.
The Mace store has opened at the BP filling station on the A590 at Greystones, near Witherslack – and is already proving a hit with local people, according to owner Simon Hockings.
He said that as well as all the usual items sold in a convenience store there would be products supplied by local businesses, such as including Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding, fresh meat from Higginson’s at Grange, and Wilson's Kendal Mint Cake.
"It's quite handily placed for local villagers," said Mr Hockings. "There have already been a lot of customers making use of the store."
Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron, who formally opened the store, said: "This store will help to provide new jobs in the area, something which is very important in this difficult economic climate."
Mr Hockings said two jobs would be created at the store.
