Diamond year for hotel and leisure business

A HOTEL and leisure business is set to celebrate its diamond anniversary this year.

English Lakes Hotels, Resorts and Venues will mark 60 years since it purchased the Low Wood Hotel, near Ambleside.

The company, which is owned and run by Simon and Tim Berry and their two cousins, now consists of six properties – Low Wood Bay, and Waterhead, near Ambleside, Storrs Hall, the Wild Boar Inn, near Windermere, Lancaster House, Lancaster, and the Midland Hotel in Morecambe.

It employs more than 450 staff, has a turnover of £16m and welcomed 140, 000 guests to its properties in the last financial year.

I was lead to believe that they don't actually OWN Low Wood. The building is on lease to English Lakes.

Yes, capitalism works because the workers don't receive the equivalent of their labour, they are swindled! And it goes on in hotels in the Lake District.

Roysyboy.... I'd get your facts right before tarnishing everyone with the same brush. Having worked for English Lakes for over a decade, I can assure you that they reward their staff very well.
I can also assure the other reader that the Low Wood is as stated in the article, owned outright by the Berry Family.

People like Roysyboy don't care about facts or reality, all he is bothered about is spouting infantile, repetitive nonsense. Perhaps if he worked a little harder and stopped blaming everybody else then he might make something of his life and enjoy a successful career whilst creating many jobs like the Berrys have!

I agree with slimjim I have also worked for english lakes for many years and have never worked for a company that looks after the staff so well and the directors are very involved in the running of the hotels! In fact many of the staff that work at the hotels have been there for years which says something!
