9:53am Wednesday 1st October 2008 in Digital UK By Lizzie Anderson
THE date for the big switch from analogue to digital television has been announced today (Wednesday).
On June 24 2009, the analogue signals at the Caldbeck transmitter group will be turned off and the majority of people living in Cumbria will enter a new era of television history.
This date applies to Border Television customer, with those who receive Granda TV set to make the switch later that year.
The switchover will see the Border region follow in the footsteps of Whitehaven, which was the first place in the UK to switch to digital television in October 2007.
“The success of Whitehaven shows that switchover works,” said John Askew, of Digital UK –the independent body leading the process. “Today we can announce when the rest of Cumbria will see the same benefits. From June 24 next year, 200,000 households across the county will be able to enjoy digital television free via an aerial.”
