A GROUP of litter pickers joined force to give two popular open spaces in the heart of a Lake District honeypot a much needed tidy-up.
South Lakeland Liberal Democrats launched a litter pick around Windermere and Bowness in response to The Westmorland Gazette's Blitz Lakeland's Litter Campaign on Saturday, (February 3).
Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron joined district councillors and volunteers in a clean up of Cockshott Point in Bowness and Queen's Park in Windermere, collecting over a dozen bags of rubbish.
Mr Farron said: "It was great to be out supporting the litter pick and great that the local district councillors got involved.
"We don't need to look far to find litter locally and we as local people have to take responsibility, but it's also important that retailers reduce the amount of packaging they use for their products."
