AN ANTI-litter campaigner whose quest for cleanliness has led him to the foot of the World's highest peak and to international fame is backing The Westmorland Gazette's Blitz Lakeland's Litter Campaign, reports Ruth Lythe.

Robin Kevan, aka Rob the Rubbish, has spent the last two years in a one-man grapple with grime, attracting international media coverage on his way.

Since 2005, Mr Kevan's clean-up campaign has taken him from Ben Nevis, up Helvellyn and to the slopes of Mount Everest.

He has also appeared on numerous TV and radio programmes and was recently filmed by Arabic TV channel, Al Jazeera, cleaning up litter around his hometown of Llanwrtyd Wells, Powys.

Now Mr Kevan, a former social worker, is to help tidy up the Howgill Fells at Sedbergh with a litter pick, specially dedicated to The Westmorland Gazette's Blitz Lakeland's Litter campaign, which aims to encourage people to do their bit and rid the area of rubbish.

And Mr Kevan, who was brought up in Sedbergh, says that any volunteers willing to take to the hills can join him in with his clean up on Monday (March 19).

"I'm going to be covering Winder and High Winder, the Calf and Cautley Spout. We will go where there is most pressure on the area with a lot of walkers going up," he explained.
