WINDERMERE lake got its annual spring clean thanks to teams of junior litter busters.
Pupils from Cartmel Priory School, through Cumbria's John Muir environmental awards scheme, headed the challenge to trawl the shores of England's longest lake for rubbish.
Lake District National Park Authority ranger Steve Tatlock said it was encouraging to get an enthusiastic and committed band of young people on board.
"Although we had fewer volunteers for our Winderclean gathering - which helps deal with the actions of thoughtless people who spoil this beautiful place - it was great to see a new generation of willing helpers emerge."
Past litter picks have turned up some diverse debris, ranging from traffic signs to patio furniture, ladies lingerie to half a boat. Spoils this year included the usual broken bottles, cans, sweet wrappers and general rubbish.
