THOUSANDS of petitions dropped through letterboxes across South Lakeland this week, as part of a campaign to bring a £15 million cancer unit to Kendal.
Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron has written to 25,000 residents asking them to back a bid to bring a specialist centre to Westmorland General Hospital.
NHS Cumbria is working with health trusts across Cumbria and Lancashire to assess the feasibility of the unit, which would cut travel times for patients needing chemotherapy, radiotherapy and specialist advice. The proposals have already got the support of the Government’s cancer tsar Mike Richards and health minister Ann Keen.
