Dealer helps 'first time' buyers out

LEARNING to drive is a tough experience and finding your perfect first car, and then insuring it, can be just as hard.

But a new used car business in Windermere is helping to make that initial step to vehicle ownership much easier.

The Forge Car Sales, in Victoria Street, is now up and running with a wide range of cars for sale under £8,000.

The husband and wife team behind the new centre are Bowness-based Gary and Geraldine Ophide, who have some 30 years' experience in the motor industry having most recently run used car businesses in the Midlands and Wales.

Having trained as a mechanic before going on to carve a niche in vehicle sales, Gary says he will only sell cars to which he is happy to put his name and reputation.

"I have worked in this industry for three decades and I will not compromise on quality.

"I only stock low mileage vehicles that are in good condition. They are also serviced before they are sold and go with a full 12 months MOT."

Buyers also drive home with three months warranty for their new purchase but have the option of purchasing additional months at cost.

Alternatively, a car location service is available for anyone who has a particular vehicle in mind.

"I want people to go away completely happy. Buyers can up their warranty for what it costs me," Gary added.

The Forge Car Sales aims to help find new drivers their first set of four wheels.

With this in mind, the range of cars in stock includes models that are cheap to insure to help keep initial costs to a minimum.

New drivers will also get six months tax free.

Gary said: "Some young people find they can't afford to insure a car once they have bought it. Some company's will easily charge £1,500 or more for a policy.

"So we are stocking cars with smaller engines that are cheaper to insure and tax. Everyone needs a start."

A letter has been sent to driving schools across the area to let them know about the new business and the help it can provide for young drivers.

Gary said: "People are already getting to know The Forge Car Sales is open and that we are here in Windermere.

"Hopefully, the quality products and good customer service available will speak for itself and people will begin to think of us first when they are thinking of replacing a car or buying one for their son or daughter."
