A WOMAN pedestrian injured in a road traffic collision in Kendal earlier this afternoon has died.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision, which occurred in Blackhall Road around 12 noon and led to major disruption to town centre traffic.

Officers said the woman, a German tourist in her 60s, was taken to Lancaster Royal Infirmary where she was pronounced dead.

The collision, which involved a Ford Transit van, occurred close to the telephone exchange on Blackhall Road. Motorists were urged to avoid the town centre after the road was closed to allow emergency services to deal with the accident.

Diversions were put in place along Wildman Street for three hours until the road re-opened. Anyone with information about the accident should contact Kendal Roads Policing Unit on 0845 33 00 247.
