A NUMBER of businesses and schools have been honoured in the latest CBEC Awards.

The competition is run by the Cumbria Business and Education Consortium and celebrates organisations that support the development of young people.

Among the winners was Kendal architects O'Neil & Petrie, based at Kirkland, which was the Kendal and South Lakes area winner of the award for outstanding contribution to the Educ- ation Business Partnership Programme (EBPP).

Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway picked up the Furness area award for EBPPs, while the Environment Agency was named Eden area winner.

In the Work Experience Awards, the gold prize for the Kendal area went to Playbase Nursery, Kendal, with Burneside-based James Cropper's ICT department picking up silver, and S, C & T Bagot Opticians, Grange-over-Sands, getting bronze.
