Small but perfectly formed, Hawkshead is one of the Lakes most popular villages. But dont let that put you off. Once youve left your car on the edge of the village its car free. As a result its hard to believe that such a busy place can be so quiet. Not only that but the place never seems crowded in the way that other popular Lakes towns and villages do, even when the car parks are full of coaches. In fact, its hard to say how such a small village can manage to absorb so many people.
