EMPLOYEES of Delta Fuels, in Kendal, will be putting something back into the community over the next 12 months by raising funds for Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team (LAMRT).

The team at Delta Fuels, which distributes heating oil and other fuels and lubricants to domestic, commercial and agricultural customers thoughout Cumbria, is planning a calendar of events to raise money and awareness for LAMRT, which is the busiest mountain rescue team in the UK, dealing with up to 100 incidents every year.

The firm is also giving every staff member an additional day of holiday to support their chosen charity.

The family-run business, which employs 191 people across its eight offices, adopts a hands-on' approach to charity work, and has raised more than £8,000 since 2005. It has also established a Countryside Fund, which assists community projects in rural areas where many of its domestic customers live.

Delta Fuels' local charity champion Lucy McCarthy said: "Helping to make a difference to LAMRT is important to us because they do such valuable and courageous work in the outlying areas where many of our more isolated customers live. We're now deciding how best to use our additional day to support LAMRT's work and are devising innovative ways to fund raise."

LAMRT chairman Ashley Cooper said: "The enthusiasm and passion of the Delta Fuels team to support our goals is both welcome and appreciated and their backing will help to provide vital equipment, which is often very simple, but saves lives."
