ORIENTEERING: Beryl Offley continued her recent good form by winning the W55 Long course at a national standard event in Cropton Forest, near Pickering.
Courses went mainly through rough underfoot coniferous woodland but also some more pleasant birch woodland and parkland.
The event was the main event of a weekend of orienteering in North Yorkshire. Elite classes were held on the first two days for the Men's and Women's 18 and 20 age classes to test the future champions.
Lakeland OC future stars Michael McIver and Kate Farley were also competing.
Lakeland OC placings in the women's classes of the national event were Sarah Price ninth on W21L, Karen Farley seventh W45L, Jackie Chapman and Pauline Richardson seventh and 12th on W50L, Sheila Hobson and Anne Wilson 12th and 17th on W55L and Helen Neild fourth W60L.
In the men's long classes Michael McIver was eighth on M20 Elite, Richard Wilson fourth M55L, Tony Richardson and Dave Neild tenth and 19th on M60L and John Offley 24th M65L.
In the men's short classes Graham Farley was 13th M45S, John Pullin fifth M55S and Geoff Price seventh M60S.
On the previous day middle length courses were run in Gilling Woods near Helmsley.
Lakeland placings were Kate Farley eighth on W18 Elite and Michael McIver 11th M20 Elite. Sarah Price was tenth on W21, Karen Farley seventh W45, Jackie Chapman fifth W50, Helen Neild and Diana McClure seventh and 20th W55, John Pullin 11th M55, Dave Neild and Geoff Price 14th and 15th M60.
