USING a combination of needle-felting and rag-rugging techniques, textile artist Lynne Stein transforms redundant materials and artefacts, along with vintage fabrics, into luscious and richly symbolic two and three-dimensional works.
Running until April 25 at Sedbergh’s Farfield Mill Arts and Heritage Centre is Lynne’s Land Marks exhibition, a stunning show of textiles using recycled, reclaimed and vintage fabrics, which, she says: “allow me to create something precious, using something which might otherwise have been discarded.”
Lynne trained and worked as an art therapist for several years. Her work has been commissioned for numerous hospitals, healthcare spaces, children’s libraries, schools and public buildings, and she recently received a research and development grant from the Arts Council, allowing her to explore new techniques and processes.
