Abandon Normal Devices – Festival of New Cinema and Digital Art (AND) – is heading for the Cumbrian hills with its various art works and performances.

The festival is a partnership between three institutions: Taylor Nuttall’s folly; FACT (Foundation Of Art and Creative Technology) in Liverpool, and Manchester’s Cornerhouse.

AND kicked off at Lancaster’s The Dukes, combining visual trickery, film, outlandish stories, music and a Vending Machine in the bar that spits out free snacks whenever recession or credit crunch is mentioned on BBC news.

The Vending Machine runs until April 10.

Meanwhile, AND moves into Grizedale Forest over the Easter weekend, Friday and Saturday, April 2 and 3, with a stunning mix of film and digital art with digital treasure hunts and video tracking.

There will also be popular portable Pixel Playground as well as the Cloud Project – a unique art and science project, serving nano ice-cream and creating strawberry flavoured clouds.

AND has been funded by Legacy Trust UK, an independent charity set up to build a lasting cultural and sporting legacy from the 2012 Olympic Games, and forms part of WE PLAY, the Northwest cultural legacy project led by the Arts Council Northwest on behalf of new regional partnerships.
