SOUTH Cumbria Musical Festival is yet another fabulous feather in our region’s cultural cap.
The prestigious gathering starts with a day-long blast of brass (Sunday), which concludes in the evening with Burneside and Dalton Town brass bands in a blow-by-blow for the James M Fryer Memorial Shield.
Following the fanfare of brass, will be speech, piano, woodwind, strings, vocals, and choir classes running throughout the week, with the glittering gala evening on Saturday (April 4) bringing the curtain down on the festival with performers from all disciplines competing for the Esther C. Croskery and Aprille C. Bonner Performance Award.
The festival attracted many performers from the South Cumbria and Barrow areas with others travelling from as far away as Shropshire.
Chairman Keith Butcher said entries in both junior and adult vocal classes had increased on last year and vocal day (Saturday) promised to be a particular highlight of the week, along with the children’s choral evening and the male voice choir class.
Keith added: “The festival promises to be the usual feast of good music and speech so people should come along to the Coronation Hall and be entertained by talented local performers.
"They won’t be disappointed.”
The 2010 South Cumbria Musical Festival festival takes place over seven days, from Sunday, March 21 until Saturday, March 27, at Ulverston’s Coronation Hall.
