BLENCARN-based artist Alan Stones is perhaps best known for his printmaking but his exhibition at Kendal’s Artisan provides an opportunity to view his charcoal drawings, including Clearing (ii) and Clearing (iv), which recently toured the country as part of the Jerwood Drawing Prize.

The exhibition, which runs at the Booths store’s restaurant until April 7, is made up of several charcoal landscapes and a original lithographs depicting figures, trees and birds.

‘I love drawing and especially with charcoal,” explains Alan. “There’s a breadth to charcoal which allows for rapid changes in direction”.
