IF YOU'VE got a wedding to go to, cancel it. If you work weekends, start thinking up excuses now. Because if you're a music lover, the last weekend in July is a diary definite.

Thanks to the vision of two young music industry whippersnappers, Kendal bred British Sea Power are sailing back to their home port this summer to headline a two-day festival in the town.

On July 29 and 30, Abbot Hall park will play host to Kendal Calling an exciting event dreamed up by local lads Andy Smith, 19, and Ben Robinson, 24, that will see bands travel across the globe for the privilege of playing.

As well as the BSP boys lauded by the Sunday Times as the "best band in Britain" - making a special trip from Brighton ahead of slots at major festivals such as Leeds and Reading, the weekend will bring Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe's band, Breaks Co-op (currently enjoying chart success with the release of The Otherside) over from Australia while the legendary drum n' bass DJs Pendulum, will be flying in from New Zealand to headline Saturday's dance stage.

The fine line-up also features Nucleus Roots and Shaolin Monkey on the Saturday and, among others, Seven Seals, Call of Duty and the White Rose Movement (who recently toured with Placebo) on the Sunday which is being sold as the ultimate band day'.

It is already being tipped, on the streets, as the biggest dance event in South Cumbria, and Andy Smith of Kendal-based promotion company Evolved Addict, is expecting tickets to sell like hot cakes.

"We're really excited about the festival. It's a great opportunity for local acts to make themselves known to their home crowd and also for locals to enjoy some first class acts right on their doorstep. We're expecting tickets to sell fast," explained an excited Andy.

As well as performers entertaining the crowds, a circus theme will extend to the main stage which will be set within an impressive 900 capacity big top' style marquee.

The event will also feature stalls selling music, clothes and gifts as well as locally produced food. Tickets are priced £15 for each day and are available from www.seetickets.com or Circa Records in Kendal.
