FRANCES Winder needs little introduction.

She is one of the region’s leading painters with a list as long as your arm of solo exhibitions as well as group shows with the highly thought of Green Door artists.

Lakeland Kaleidoscope is the Kendal-based artist’s latest exhibition gracing the walls of Brantwood’s Severn Studio until May 4 and providing an exciting opportunity to see her new and engaging collection.

Frances continues to be fascinated by fresh approaches and techniques in her painting and her passion for the wilderness areas are vividly reflected in her new pieces.

Although Frances’ art focuses on painting – watercolour, gouache and oil pastel, and acrylic - she has a keen interest in exploring the printing process, especially collographs, and working with ceramics and machine embroidery.

“I have always needed to express myself through painting,” reveals Frances.

“The ever-changing light and colours of the Lake District are a constant source of excitement and inspiration. I am searching for those subtle shifts and changes that transform a landscape as I watch. For me, the weather, the time and the seasons weave a continuous tapestry that never ends.”

Born in Leicester, Frances gained a fine art degree and teaching qualification at Manchester Polytechnic. She has exhibited with the Royal Academy and the Manchester Academy. While working freelance as an illustrator for architects and advertising agencies, she also exhibited in several other galleries in and around Manchester.

Having lived in Lakeland for many years, she has established herself as one of the area’s most prominent and productive painters.

Lakeland Kaleidoscope is on display at the Coniston venue daily from 10.30am-5pm.
