WINDERMERE Art Society's highly regarded annual exhibition is still running at Ladyholme Community Centre, on Lake Road, until Saturday (August 15).

The exhibition was opened by well-known local professional artist Robert Henfrey, who selected the winner of the Robin Lowry trophy, which is awarded to the best picture in the exhibition.

The recipient this year is Sedbergh artist Gordon Young (pictured) picking up the award for his oil on canvas painting Woodland Oasis. Robert praised Gordon's picture for its portrayal of atmosphere and light.

The society’s first annual exhibition was held in 1980 with summer shows held at the Rayrigg Rooms and screens hired from Ambleside Art Society. Later, smaller exhibitions were also held at Easter and at other times during the year.

By 1986 the society had its own screens, which were stored at the Rayrigg Rooms. Ten years later the membership peaked at 80.

The society's last exhibition at Rayrigg Rooms was in 2013 moving the popular event to Ladyholme last year.

'Tate Windermere' will be open daily 10.30am-5.30pm.
