AS WELL as the Albrecht Durer: Beyond the Burden of Brilliance exhibition, another jolly good reason to drop in at Brantwood is to immerse yourself in the work of Patricia Haskey.

Patricia's A Feeling for Landscape show runs at the Coniston venue's Severn Studio until August 7.

Sketches, oil paintings and mixed media paintings, using watercolour, gouache and soft pastel, feature in the Heysham-based artist's impressive exhibition, which is about being 'emotionally present' in the landscape of Ruskin’s beloved Lake District.

Patricia - whose work is held in the House of Lords Art Collection, in the head office of Cadbury and in private, national and international collections far and wide - says she loves to absorb the atmosphere of places, and the paintings in her exhibition have evolved from numerous visits to Brantwood and other locations around the region throughout the seasons of the past year.

“My fascination is with the richness of the flora and the distinctive shapes of the mountains beyond," adds Patricia. "Dramatic skies; meandering lanes; clusters of tiny buildings punctuating the shapes of fields and trees, dwarfed by the expanse of the surrounding hills.

"The cohesive element is the quality of light - how it sharpens or diffuses detail and more particularly how it affects colour, evoking mood and atmosphere. I take great pleasure in mixing paint into endless hues to express, not the outer reality but an inner response to the landscape and the process of painting itself.”

Patricia studied fine art at the University of Central Lancashire and graduated with honours in 1980.

In 2004, she was one of 12 artists chosen to represent artists from the north west of England in an exhibition in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden.

In 2014 Patricia was shortlisted for the Artists and Illustrators magazine Artist of the year competition for her painting The Chemist - Kirkby Lonsdale painting, which was shown in the competition exhibition at London's Mall Galleries, in January 2015.

Commissions for private and corporate clients include Lancaster City Council and EDF Energy.
