FARFIELD Mill is offering a rare chance to see some of the best textile art in Europe.

The popular, highly regarded Sedbergh arts and heritage centre is the only UK venue staging The Magic of Colour exhibition, which features 38 selected works by artists from across the globe.

While experienced stitchers and textile students will appreciate the skill involved in creating each item, the display occupying the mill’s two main galleries is also a visual treat for those with no particular craft expertise.

Farfield director Anne Pierson said that the exhibition featured traditional techniques such as patchwork, quilting and embroidery that have been used to create what is best described as "beautiful wall-hangings."

She added: "Some of them, from a distance, almost appear as paintings.”

The work is the ‘long-list’ selected by a panel of international judges from hundreds of entries for a prestigious annual competition which is hosted each September in Alsace, France, close to the birthplace of the Amish people who are renowned for their stunning quilts.

The world class Magic of Colour runs at the acclaimed centre until January 18.

Meanwhile, Farfield is now a supplier for Ernest Wright handmade scissors - the renowned 'Stork' embroidery scissors.

Farfield Mill is open from 10.30am-4.30pm. For further information telephone 015396-21958.
