KENDAL Museum is showcasing a must-see collection of new works by artists from Green Door, the region's leading collective.

The exhibition, Inside Outside, features a variety of two and three-dimensional pieces, from textiles to ceramics, wood, glass, paintings, prints, drawings and photographs.

Kendal artist Evelyn Sinclair is especially excited to be showing her latest series of drawings inspired by musicians.

"As the musician plays for me, I'm watching for those intense moments when they seem to lose themselves in the music," explained Evelyn. "On the outside we can enjoy their wonderful performance, while on the inside it looks as though the musician has gone to another plane - it's almost like a meditation. Plus the clean, contemporary gallery space downstairs at Kendal Museum is a brilliant venue in which to show them."

Printmaker Sue David is exhibiting two monotypes created from the same plate. Outer Reaches was made first by overprinting several layers of colour to create a remote, remembered landscape. The underlying inks remaining on the plate unexpectedly formed Innermost.

New Green Door member Mike Healey has a diorama and a drawing on display, exploring the idea that nature is never quite what it seems. "Within the entrails of a large cactus there lurks a plant that, should you come too close, will probably bite your hand off," he said. " A 'pretty' landscape actually consists of briars that scratch and whose inner 'character' is, in reality, raw in tooth and claw."

Meanwhile, keep a lookout for the flagship Green Door Art Trail 2017, returning on April 8 and 9 with more than 50 artists taking part, either from their own studios or shared venues.
