AUGUST is probably the busiest month for art society exhibitions - and this year is no exception.

Among the plethora of must-see shows is the Kirkby Lonsdale Art Society summer showcase, providing a splendid platform for the work of talented local artists.

Once again staged in the town's St Marys Church, it runs from Tuesday, August 8, until Saturday, August 12.

Among those exhibiting will be society president and Finestra Gallery owner, William Jones, particularly well known across Cumbria for his detailed landscapes, portraits of dogs, and paintings of the highways and byways of the historic Kirkby Lonsdale market town, which is perfectly perched on the edge of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.

Alongside William's work, the splendid exhibition includes vibrant contemporary paintings by Tim Pavey, landscapes by Louis and Karen Morton, and modern mixed media work by Rosie Hall, among many others.

As usual, there will be an original painting raffled during the exhibition.

The society holds meetings each week in the winter and in summer members go out sketching and painting.

Winter meetings are held on Thursdays from 7.30pm-9.30pm at Fraser Hall at Cowan Bridge with professional artist William on hand to give help and advice about painting and drawing to KLAS members.

For further information contact society secretary, Rosie Hall on 015242-62711 or email rosemaryjackson@yahoo.co.uk.

The St Marys Church exhibition will be open from 10am-5pm daily.
