FARFIELD Mill is a giant of the textile world highly regarded far and wide.

A wonderland of vibrant textural displays, at the moment the top floor of the superb Sedbergh arts and heritage centre has been transformed into a magical village graced by hundreds of houses.

Each house is totally different and made of sewn textiles.

The AccessArt Village is a participatory project run by AccessArt, a UK education charity which supports and inspires teaching and learning in the visual arts. The project was supported by Appletons Wools and aimed to inspire individuals of all ages and abilities to contribute a sewn drawing of their home towards a larger, co-created, collaborative artwork.

The resulting installation of more than 700 3D models shows work by children at the start of their creative lives next to that of accomplished artists and older generations. While highlighting the character and individuality of each piece, the project celebrates diversity and reminds all of the universal sanctity of 'home.'

Rosie James, who teaches at Dent School said: "Knowing that their work was to be part of a collaborative exhibition, the children from Dent School pushed themselves to make their work extra special."

The inventive exhibition is on show until Sunday, October 22 and after its Farfield run is touring the UK.

Meanwhile, another good reason to pop into Farfield is to immerse yourself in A Small World by Re-view Textile, a contemporary textile network founded in 2009.

The artists have created a collection of curious, miniature works, reminiscent of displayed collections of oddities around the globe, brought back by travelling collectors in the era before the electronic age introduced us to the wider world.

Creative curiosities include micro sealife, beach combing assemblages, a child's dream, a mermaid, bugs, felt flowers, pairs of objects from a nature table, a story of exploitation of natural resources, minutiae of vegetable surfaces, cityscapes.

Running until Sunday, October 29, artists featured include Sue Boardman, Janet Wilkinson, Rosey Paul, Yvonne Deegan, Jo Frankel, Viv Netherwood, Judith Railton, Jen Fenner, Catherine Carmyllie, Marion Roberts and Julie Jones-Taylor
