1:10pm Sunday 13th November 2011 in Art
By Adrian Mullen, Arts correspondent
NEXT weekend (November 19/20) Farfield Mill celebrates its tenth anniversary staging a celebratory Christmas weekend spiced with festive fun for the whole family.
To tie in, the highly respected Sedbergh arts and heritage centre is staging Edging South – an exhibition by edge textile artists Scotland of contemporary work, featuring techniques ranging across felt making, batik, creative stitching, mixed media, work incorporating found objects, drawing and painting with stitch, and much more.
Also running at Farfield until January 1 is Anne Griffiths’ Alice’s House.
Anne abandoned her career as an IT consultant in 1998 to pursue her passion for art and textiles. After studying textiles and soft furnishings she began lecturing, teaching and became artist-in-residence for Diamond Light Source in Oxfordshire. In 2007 she provided designs for a number of collaborative pieces with sculptor Paula Groves for her bronze medal-winning stand at the Chelsea Flower Show.
Due to limited parking at the mill, over the November 19/20 weekend visitors can park in Joss Lane Car Park in Sedbergh and use a free return shuttle service that will run every half hour between 10.30am and 5pm.
