AN EXCITING sci-fi inspired finale to Signal Film and Media's Lost Stations digital arts programme opens next week.

All are invited to encounter Time Back Way Back at a special preview night on Wednesday, November 22, featuring a live musical performance at Barrow Train Station before the interactive exhibition continues at innovative Signal's Cooke’s Studios on Abbey Road. Featuring a haunting choral soundtrack from Becki Fishwick’s Be. Vocal youth singing group, audiences can don protective headgear to excavate artefacts from a past society, before virtual reality allows them to uncover writings from Cumbria’s ‘past.’ RSVPs for the night can be made online at www.loststations.signalfilmandmedia.co.uk or by emailing joanna@signalfilmandmedia.co.uk.

Artist and videosmith Sam Meech's Time Back Way Back exhibition is inspired by a masterpiece of science fiction, Riddley Walker written by Russell Hoban, and sees Sam reimagine a small corner of south Cumbria as a haunting, post-apocalyptic world of science-fiction fantasy. Visitors will be immersed in a futuristic set and can expect to encounter performance, phosphorescent concrete forms, virtual reality and interactive projection mapping.

Drawing on the themes of Lost Stations, in reference to the traces of railway networks and lines surrounding Barrow, Time Back Way Back will examine the idea of past technologies and past societies, through asking its visitors to play what Sam calls “archeologists of the future.” In the same way that the town’s railway traces indicate a past of booming industrialisation, the specially commissioned show will use interactive artworks to envisage a future that will unearth the traces of relics and railway networks that present civilisation will leave behind.

Sam has exhibited both nationally and internationally and earlier this year he led Signal Film and Media’s digital artist development programme.

He says that the show is not a historical document of Barrow, but an absurd imaginary leap into a future world.

Time Back Way Back runs from Wednesday-Saturday, 10.30am-5.30pm until Saturday, December 9, with late night openings on Thursdays until 7pm.
