Review: Another Earth (12A)

92 mins. Released: December 9 (UK & Ireland, selected cinemas).

Brilliant high school student Rhoda Williams (Brit Marling) is destined for one of America’s most revered scientific institutes until she is involved in a drink driving incident, killing the two passengers of the other car and putting the driver, John Burroughs (William Mapother), into a coma.

Rhoda goes to prison for her crime and she re-emerges into a society fascinated by the discovery of a planet with exactly the same atmosphere and geography as Earth.

As a minor when the crash occurred, Rhoda’s identity was never released to John so the young woman secretly atones for her sins by offering free cleaning services to the grief-stricken widower.

The relationship between the two emotionally damaged souls deepens and Rhoda finds herself horribly conflicted as she falls for John, who has no idea that she is responsible for destroying his world.
