Question:

I'm a vegetarian but my new in-laws aren't, they love steak, and are coming for meal, what dish should I serve for them?

It's always tough cooking for the in-laws, even tougher when you are a vegetarian and they are not! The dish I would serve would just be a simple grilled sirloin steak. Buy your steaks from a good local butcher, we have some great ones in Kendal. Buy an 8oz sirloin steak per person and make sure the butcher has trimmed some of the fat off. When you come to cook your steaks, you need a good solid bottom frying pan that can cope with getting very hot. Brush the steaks with a little olive oil and season with some salt and freshly milled black pepper. Carefully place your steak into a very hot frying pan and cook the steaks for about four minutes on each side. When they are nearly cooked, add a good sized piece of butter to the hot pan and spoon it over your steaks. Allow the steaks to rest for a few minutes before you serve them. Serve with some oven baked potato wedges and a green salad.
