SWEET toothed South Lakelanders will be treated to a feast for the senses when cake makers set up in a town centre shop.

Kendal's own Ginger Bakers will take up residence in South Lakeland District Council's pop up shop on Finkle Street for a two week stint from Monday (March 30).

More used to sending their award-winning wares across the country or handing out treats at market stalls, the small but dedicated team will be on hand to offer treats to loyal customers while enticing new ones.

Owner Lisa Smith said: "We've not done pop up shops before. We'll be selling everything we have and will launch our spring products which includes a beetroot and berry brownie - keeping up with a health conscious product which is gluten free - and a couple of fruit cakes."

Also on the menu will be a selection of Easter goodies including simnel cake, celebration cake and 'anything chocolatey'.

As a local business with a desire to open a high street shop of their own, this provides the bakers with the perfect opportunity to test the waters.

"I would love to open a shop in Kendal but it's a case of waiting for the right place and time," she added. "We're hoping it will be really good for us and that there'll be plenty of people tasting our products."

Although the Ginger Bakers currently work out of a unit in Kendal, they have national customers on their books such as Booths and Aldi.

They are even currently negotiating with Harrods while Marks and Spencer has shown an interest.

Closer to home the producers provide goods to Westmorland Services, Tebay, and cafes across the area.

"We're growing and grew quite a lot last year, taking on big contracts," added Lisa. "We're making more stuff, have more space and are hoping to grow that again."

The business has just installed a new machine that wraps products, making their shelf life better.

Ginger Bakers will be in the pop up shop from Monday (March 30) until Saturday, April 11, from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
