A TWENTY-year-old whose meringue business is booming has quit her day job after two years of sweet success.

Gee Scott, of Cark-in-Cartmel, started up the venture after a 'light bulb moment' in 2013 after graduating from Kendal College having studied business and accounting.

And now exactly two years down the line, Gee's Meringues is in such high demand that the baker is going full time - ditching a part time office job in Flookburh to commit to a career in food.

"My first business call was to Low Sizergh Barn in 2013 and Amy loved the products I had to offer and placed an order there and then," said Gee, who was a novice baker who learned from her mum. "That was it Gee's Meringues was in business.

"I invested in an oven, a mixer, some pretty packaging and then ordered lots of different colours and flavourings and experimented to find the perfect combinations.

"The best sellers are still the same today."

Gee now supplies around 20 shops and restaurants including Grasmere Gingerbread, with ginger meringues, Westmorland Services at Tebay and Cranstons in Penrith.

She even whipped up the courage to get up in front of an audience at the Kendal Festival of Food this year for a demonstration to show eager on lookers how it is done.

"Business has picked up quite a lot this year and orders are flying in now with the weather picking up so it looks like it's going to be a very busy summer," she added.

The baker is now working out of a kitchen which has been developed on the side of her family's home, and anticipates some very long nights and early mornings as she enters a new chapter in life.

Treat lovers can choose from pavlovas, meringue kisses, nests, twirls and giant meringues that come in 10 different flavours which include hazelnut, chocolate and raspberry.

With the use of a new courier service, Gee's popular wares are available to deliver anywhere within the UK.
