A KENDAL hotel has hailed its trainee programme a success after two budding students graduated to management roles.

Jenny Stocks, 20, and Penny Brown, 21, were the first two trainees to embark on the Castle Green Hotel's Trainee Management Scheme two years ago and are set to start a new chapter in assistant manager roles in the food and beverage teams.

The pair joined the four-star hotel in June 2013 and have spent the past two years developing a range of experience and skills to equip them for a career within two of the hotel's departments.

Penny will be based in the recently refurbished two AA Rosette awarded restaurant, The Greenhouse, while Jenny will support the banqueting and events team.

"We like to promote from within," said human resources manager Grace Williamson. "We felt that recruiting staff at the beginning of their careers and nurturing them into the hotel’s way of doing things with our high levels of skills training and strong service standard, would develop outstanding managers for the future."

General manager Ben Mayou said: "To have such capable and confident members of the team who are so flexible and can cover multiple roles within the hotel has really enabled us to offer enhanced service in many areas of the business.

"Following this success we are now looking to recruit new trainee managers to join our programme during 2015.

"So if you are passionate about the hospitality industry and have a desire to learn then the Castle Green could be your first step into hotel management.’
