A REVAMPED visitor experience is offering families the chance to learn the art of cheese-making at a famous Dales creamery.

The Wensleydale Creamery, in Hawes, has just unveiled the first phase of its new Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese Experience - part of a multi-million pound investment.

Visitors to the centre in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales can now enjoy an interactive experience which includes the chance of seeing the cheese being made in the brand new creamery facility.

David Hartley, managing director at the Wensleydale Creamery, said: “With a heritage that spans centuries and family roots that are firmly set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, we’re looking forward to welcoming the first visitors into our new Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese Experience.

“The multi-million pound investment in our creamery and visitor experience marks a significant milestone for cheese-making in the Dales but despite our business growth and international acclaim, the tradition and artisanship of handcrafting Yorkshire Wensleydale is still very much alive today."

He added: "The Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese Experience will educate families on the timeless techniques we use to handcraft our award-winning cheese with lots of fun along the way.”

In development for almost eight months, the visitor centre has undergone a complete makeover and the first completed areas offer entertainment for the whole family with a host of hands-on games and activities.

Children will be able to have fun driving the children’s milk tanker and learning all about how a cow makes milk.

Other additions this summer include home-made ice cream milkshakes, a sparkling soda range, coffee shop children’s menu and the Wensleydale Creamery’s newest Yorkshire Yogurt range.

The entire project is due for completion in 2016.

Home of Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese, the creamery's visitor centre attracts more than 200,000 people a year.

With plenty to see and do, there is a museum, cheese tasting plus a shop and deli so hungry visitors can take some goodies home too.
