A SOUTH Lakeland estate is set to stage its second celebration of spice.

The hotly anticipated Holker Chilli Fest returns to the hall's grounds at Cark-in-Cartmel this weekend complete with a 'healthy increase' in new exhibitors.

Last year’s show attracted 4,500 people and organisers are holding out for an even bigger turn out this month.

Jillian Rouse, head of visitor services, said: “We were thrilled with the turn out last year for our first chilli event.

"It was great September weather, exhibitors reported good sales and visitors comments and feedback were all really positive.

"We’re keen to slowly grow the event as it’s clear that the chilli is as popular as ever, with more and more specialist food producers across the North West and nationally."

Holker Courtyard will come alive with food, music, dancing, and entertainment including a magician, fire eaters, a juggler, and stiltwalker.

Heat-lovers can browse the spice-scented market stalls offering a plethora of take home goodies, specialist chilli produce and quirky gifts, including home-made preserves, aromatic oils, curry pastes and powders.

Representing the North West will be Mr Vikki’s award-winning spiced chutneys, pickles and sauces, The Chilli Pepper Company and Starlys Spice Company.

Gerald Fowler, of The Chilli Pepper Company, will be unveiling a new chilli sauce at the show while those wanting to learn new skills can take tips from Made in Cumbria's cooking demonstrations.

And for daring spice enthusiasts with a, a chilli eating competition will be hosted by chilli expert Darth Naga.

There is also the chance to learn some new skills from Made in Cumbria cooking demonstrations plus a chilli eating
