TALES of bravery, boldness and magic from the pens of esteemed female writers will be celebrated in the next Brewery Theatre Company production.
Created and directed by the Brewery Arts Centre's own Trish Gordon and Louie Ingham, One Churchill and Three Little Darlings, runs from Thursday, May 15 until Saturday, May 17 (8pm).
The production features a stirring collection of funny, emotional and thought-provoking short plays and poetry.
"What excites us is that the plays put otherwise seemingly invisible women right at the centre of the story, women who have played instrumental roles in society and who have touched the lives of many on a local or global level," enthuses Louie.
"We think these stories are inspiring, as do the cast of strong emerging female performers, and we are looking forward to sharing these untold stories with audiences."
Venetia, Marlene, Maureen, Edith and Edna are the women characters with stories to tell.
From tales of shipyards and waiting rooms come messages of friendship, imagination, hope and fear.
One Churchill and Three Little Darlings features extracts from Top Girls by Caryl Churchill, Venetia Love Goes Netting, The Women Who Painted Ships and Appointments, from the pen of Julia Darling.
In addition, there'll be poetry in the spotlight for the first time from talented Lakeland wordsmiths Linda Graham and Anne Banks.
The production, I'm told, brings a raw piece of theatre, which promises to be moving, entertaining and incredibly memorable, to the Brewery stage.
In the hands of BTC, it promises to be a quality piece of theatre.
And with skilled players such as Kate Vernon, Helen Moffitt, Sarah Brett, and Jacqui Wallace, all under the proscenium arch, it could well bring the house down.
Tickets are £11/ £10 concessions/ £7 students, and available from the Brewery box office on 01539-725133.
