LANCASHIRE FOLK TALES by David England and Jennie Bailey, £9.99 ISBN 978-0-742489933
PROFESSIONAL storytellers David England and Jennie Bailey joined forces to produce this book of 30 ‘lively and entertaining’ folk tales of Lancashire and its people.
They include from the Great Treacle Eating Boggarts at Sabden, the famous Pendle Witches at Malkin Tower and intriguing tales such as the Oldham woman who stands under a clock because her time ran out.
Illustrated by a Lancashire artist, the authors claim the book to be the only contemporary volume of local folk tales in print.
David England was born, raised and educated in Lancashire. He became interested in storytelling whilst studying psychotherapy, and wrote his MA thesis, entitled Telling Tales.
Jennie Bailey contributes articles and reviews to various places including RSPB Wild Times children's magazine and Starburst, the UK's longest-running science fiction and fantasy magazine.
