AS PART of World Book Night Simon Sylvester, winner of the 2014 Guardian Not the Booker Prize for his debut novel The Visitors, will be appearing at Kendal Library tonight (Thursday, 7pm) to read from his book and meet readers. Tickets from the library.

Elsewhere, Grange-over-Sands Library host an Afternoon Delight (2.30pm) to celebrate World Book Night - an informal ‘drop in’ aimed at local book givers who can go along and hand out their books. All local reading groups are invited plus the general public.

Some books - which are on the World Book Night title list - will be distributed at both events for free by volunteers.

World Book Night began in 2011 as a unique collaboration between publishers, booksellers, librarians, writers and individual members of the public – all of whom are committed to sharing their love of books and reading with the wider world, improving literacy levels and changing lives through the giving away of specially printed books.
