Theatre by the Lake is running another season of sessions for young people with an interest in writing for the stage. These practical sessions, open to ages 13-25, introduce some of the most important tools that writers need when writing for the stage.

Those attending will work on their own scripts and collaborate with others in the group. The sessions will conclude with a showing of work performed by members of Theatre by the Lake’s Young Actor’s Company.

Previous seasons have focused on particular themes or titles such as Whirlpool and A Dog’s Life. This season the theme will be The Door.

The Young Writers who participate will be required to attend all sessions and they will also be expected to do some writing in their own time.

The sessions, run by Stefan Escreet, Theatre by the Lake’s Associate Director, will take place on Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 8pm. Session dates are as follows: April 22 and 29, May 6 and 13, June 17 and 24 and July 1, 8 and 15, 2009 and the term costs £60.

To apply, please contact Michael Eccles on 017687 81111 or email michael.eccles@theatrebythelake.com to request an application form.

In addition to completing the form you’ll need to submit a short written piece (approx 250 words) explaining why you wish to write for performance.

Places are limited and participants will be selected on individual merit.

Organisers are particularly keen to attract young people in the upper regions of the age bracket. Applications must be received by 5.30pm on Tuesday 7 April.

Successful applicants will be notified by Friday 17 April with details of venue and payment information.
