EMILY Robinson is back in the soprano spotlight this time around swapping the comic opera of Gilbert and Sullivan for the sacred classics of Mozart.

Fresh from her successful lead role in Kendal and District Gilbert and Sullivan Society’s Princess Ida the Lakeland singer shares the stage with three other accomplished soloists in Ambleside and District Choral Society’s An Evening of Mozart on Saturday, May 3 (7.30pm) at St Mary’s Church.

Contralto, Anne Marie-Kerr; tenor, Alex Banfield and bass Jolyon Dodgson complete the foursome, all conducted by Hugh Davies, accompanied by South Cumbria Ensemble.

Emily says she really enjoyed playing Princess Ida, which was her first acting role, and she hopes to return for The Pirates of Penzance next year.

Meanwhile, her highly praised vocal chords are warming up to the works of the prolific and influential 18th Century Salzburg-born composer.

“I love Mozart,” enthuses Emily, “and I was so chuffed when Hugh Davies asked me to do it.

“G&S is quite operatic and a big voice style.

“Mozart’s a bit more precise but more involved musically.”

The Ambleside programme includes Mass in C Major, Divertimento in D and Missa Brevis in F.
