PRO Nobis Singers celebrate their 45th anniversary in grand style capturing the sounds of 17th Century Venice.

Billed as The Splendours of Venice: Sacred Music by the great composer Monteverdi, the singers will be joined for the Kendal Parish Church concert on Saturday, June 21 (7.30pm), by their illustrious president, internationally-known soprano Evelyn Tubb.

Evelyn studied trumpet, piano and singing at the Guildhall School of Music. She became a member of the Consort of Musicke in 1977 and is highly regarded as an influential interpreter of early music. Joining Evelyn, and soloists from the ranks of the choir, are mezzo-soprano, Deborah Catterall, who partnered Evelyn Tubb in Pro Nobis’s performance of the Monteverdi Vespers of 1610 in the year 2000; tenor, Robert Thomas, who lives in Coniston and has extensive professional performing experience as a soloist and choral singer; Christopher Trenholme of Bradford, who appeared in Kendal recently as soloist with Kendal South Choir; and completing the distinguished line-up are basses Jonathan Millican and David Rees-Jones.

Conducted by Clive Walkey, the singers are accompanied by a string ensemble playing on the type of instruments used by musicians in Monteverdi’s time, plus the sackbuts of QuintEssential, one of the foremost professional groups of early music wind players working in the UK today.
