A NORFOLK band will play the highest gig in England this weekend when they take their music to the top of Scafell Pike.

Jimmy Rockit are brothers Zach, Harrison and Frazer Stanford and their cousin Bradley Carr.

They will be carrying their equipment to the top of England’s highest mountain on June 28 for an acoustic gig to raise money for drummer Frazer’s trip to Tanzania in 2015.

Frazer, 15, hopes to take part in a month-long volunteering project to help improve education and take part in conservation activities in Camp Tanzania.

Taking the Grains Gill route to the top, Jimmy Rockit will carry their instruments to the summit and rely on a support team of family and friends to shoulder spare clothing, water and food for them.

Gig time on the summit is planned for 12 noon with a live stream via the band’s website: www.highestgiginengland.co.uk.

After their epic trip to the top of England, the band will set off for the Tan Hill Inn, in North Yorkshire, England’s highest pub, to do the second gig of the day, starting at 10pm.

“We were looking to do something really unique to raise money for my trip to Africa” said Frazer.

“We are all keen hill walkers and have done several Wainwrights including Scafell Pike and have been playing in bands together for nine years, so it was a natural thing to put the two together and do something that we don’t think anyone has ever done before.”

The band have played together since September 2007 and have performed everything from big festivals and tight pub gigs to wedding receptions and black tie events.

From crowds of 7 to 7,000, ages from 11 to 80, they’ve played in front of record company bosses and supported bands including Hayseed Dixie, The Primitives, The Christians and Wilko Johnson.

The band said that if for safety reasons they can’t do the gig on Scafell Pike they will be playing the four highest pubs in England in one day - The Traveller’s Rest, Derbyshire, Cat & Fiddle, Cheshire, the Kirkstone Pass Inn, Cumbria, and the Tan Hill Inn, North Yorkshire.
