ENCHANTING South Cumbrian folk duo Tapestry have announced a series of shows – and a debut album – after several years away from music.

Acoustic twosome Stephen and Jane Gerrity’s music combines original, melodic storytelling songs with some classic covers from Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor, The Corrs and Joni Mitchell, among others.

The pair have released a debut album of self-penned material entitled ‘Tapestry: Once Upon a String’, which is available to buy from iTunes, CD Baby or at one of their live performances.

Jane has also revealed that Tapestry are working on another album made up exclusively of covers, by popular demand.

“We do a lot of covers when we play live but only one has made it on to the album and a few people have asked about them,” she said.

This productive period comes after a couple of years away from music, as Jane explained, “We moved to Millom from Coniston and once we got settled we thought we’d better start up again.”

After their live performance on BBC Radio Cumbria and Glasgow Celtic Radio in 2013, they opened a music cafe in Coniston.

With ‘Bespoke Folk Cafe’ they produced both great food and great music, which they performed every Saturday night.

Jane said: “It was a brilliant year where we met some fantastic people and musicians.

“We even had a Folk Festival at Torver which was a great success and thanks to our team we managed to raise £1,000 for the Torver village hall.

“As anyone knows who has run a cafe & B+B it is a life-consuming career so after a while Steve and I decided it was time to get back to our music and the stories of Tapestry.

“We had moved to Cumbria to be inspired by the mountains, not tea & cake. This is Poets Country and we feel we have a voice to be heard through our evocative music.”

Catch Tapestry at The Braithwaite Hall, Far Sawrey on June 13, Ravenglass Parish Hall on June 19 and Grizebeck Village Hall on June 20.
