CROSBY Ravensworth Village Hall is hosting Manchester jazz pianist/singer/composer John Ellis for a night of great songs and fine musicianship on September 25.

The John Ellis Solution is a journey into song – and songs about people, their hopes, loves and fears.

Many of the songs relate to John’s career as the secret ingredient on albums by Tom Jones, Lily Allen, Corinne Bailey Rae, The Cinematic Orchestra, John Squire (The Stone Roses) and others.

John Ellis counts Nina Simone, Duke Ellington, Toumani Diabete, Captain Beefheart, Abudallah Ibtrahim, Tommy Flannigan and Shirley Horn among his influences, which encompass a wide variety of world folk music and jazz from every era.

John is now on tour with a group who share his love of this music - double bassist Pete Turner and drummer Rob Turner.

John has written scores for various theatre productions including a National Theatre production based on the novel "A Clockwork Orange".

From his Limefield Studio he has produced a number of successful albums including his own Tales from the Irk and most recently, the Manchester Jazz Festival announced him as the recipient of the Irwin Mitchell mjf originals commission for 2015.
