A LANCASTER student is set to perform alongside prog legend Rick Wakeman in his candlelit concerts at Lancaster Priory.
Lizee Weedy, a student at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute (BIMM) in Manchester, will sing with the keyboard maestro in her hometown in October.
Lizee, who sang with the Priory Choir from ages seven to 18, will sing solo on a number of songs accompanied by Rick on the piano.
The 20-year-old singer was thinking about buying tickets when she got the call asking her to perform.
“I feel very honoured - I sang with the Priory choir so it is lovely to be able to go back and perform," she said.
“I do feel quite nervous about singing with someone who has sold so many records but more than anything I'm excited. I can't wait to perform with such a fantastic musician.”
Singing in the choir gave Lizee the opportunity to join the Royal School of Church Music in 2006.
“I developed a great love for singing choral music, it’s something that will always be close to my heart,” she explained.
But she'd always been interested in other styles of music and at 13-years-old started attending Dukes Boogie youth music group in Lancaster.
She is now the singer with Greater Manchester-based band The Haydn Funk Project.
Now in her final year at BIMM, Lizee hopes to pursue a varied musical career of session work, youth work, teaching and performing.
