AN Ulverston guitarist and songwriter has released his second solo album, under the moniker ‘dogmusic’.

Roger Bibby, of Toldeo Mud Hens and many other bands over the years, released his debut album of self-penned classical guitar music last December.

Now his second record, ‘Changing Shade into Colour and Light,’ he has teamed up with old friend and former bandmate in 12ft Machete, Richard Kemp.

The basis for all ten tracks is Roger’s guitar, with Richard then adding all manner of instruments and samples to expand the sound, with the resulting sound much less classical and more contemporary than the first album.

“I live in Ulverston and Richard lives in Yorkshire, so it was an unusual collaboration in that we didn’t see each other the entire time we were making the album,” explained Roger.

“It came about because he was listening to the first album and asked if he could put his spin on my songs.

“I’d just started writing tracks for the new album so I decided to send him the new tracks as I recorded them, individually.

“It worked brilliantly but I couldn’t have done it with anyone else – Richard and I were in a band together for a long time so we’ve got a good understanding of what the other likes.

“It was quite exciting – I would send my guitar parts over, with no indication of what I was expecting back, and I’d be rushing to work on Monday morning to see if anything had come back.”

Roger said he is pleased with the more ‘balanced’ sound of the second album.

“If I had to be critical of the first one I’d say that it’s maybe a little bit too classical, so with this one I set out to try and write more contemporary themes.

“The response so far has been fantastic – much better than the last one.”

Roger is currently in talks with several producers from BBC Radio 6 Music in a bid to get the album some radio play - it is available to listen to at http://www.dogmusic.co.uk/changing-shade-into-colour-light/.
