ROOTS duo Miranda Sykes and Rex Preston will be playing at Ellel Village Hall in Galgate on April 16.

The mandolin and double bass pairing are embarking on a UK tour in support of latest album 'The Watchmaker's Wife', which was released in February this year.

'The Watchmaker's Wife' exhibits the two musicians at their rawest, with just the two instruments and Miranda's voice recorded as they would be performed live.

Miranda and Rex interweave lively original material with timeless, well-chosen covers of both contemporary and traditional songs delivered in a way that maintains their original dignity.

They have described the new album as: "a reflective, powerful and moving collection of tales of love and loss."

Miranda Sykes is well-known as a part of established acoustic roots and folk band Show Of Hands, of which she has been a member for the last 11 years.

Rex Preston - who for the first time showcases some of his original material on the album - has made a name for himself as one of the UK's finest mandolin players.

The pair will be touring throughout spring.
