MUSICIANS with a Burneside connection are launching an event at the Bryce Institute in the village in aid of the Cumbria Flood Recovery Appeal.

The event, which will take place on Saturday April 9, will see five different acts take to the stage in an evening focused on providing an eclectic musical experience.

Burneside was badly hit by the floods caused in December by Storm Desmond, and organiser Phil Hull saw the opportunity to use music to help recover from the damage.

Phil, who had lived in Burneside for two-and-a-half years, said: "I had thought about doing something like this before and when the floods happened I put the idea to the people at the Bryce.

"They were taken with the idea. For now it's a one off but if it works maybe we can do something again later this year: maybe a day long music event or a weekend.

"It's an opportunity to showcase the talents of the people in the village."

The event will begin with a performance from Bryce-based ukulele band the Bryce Street Strummers, who play a variety of covers on a folk style.

They will be followed by Tightrope, who formed from members of the South Lakes Guitar Club. Originally the group was formed so the members could just play together, however Bryceadelic will see them performing publicly for the first time with a mix of rock, motown and jazz.

Singer-songwriter Hayden Sorrenson, who won Lakeland Radio's 2013 'Search for a Star' competition will play next. Following Hayden will be stalwart of the Kendal music scene Stuart Macfarlane, who has played lead guitar in a number of well-known bands in the area, including Freeway, the Fabulous Picasso Brothers and Storm. He now performs solo material.

Headlining the show will be Fred and the Steam Machine, who will play a set geared towards getting the audience dancing.

Phil hopes that the event will bring together music fans and musicians alike. Response so far has been positive, with the bands agreeing to contribute as soon as they heard about the event.

Doors will open at 6pm, with a whole evening of music following until midnight.

Tickets are £10, £8 concessions, on the door or from 01539 727142.
