MUSICIANS are set to takeover Kirkby Lonsdale, as the town's weekend-long music festival is returning for its fourth year.

Venues across the town are to play host to a number of live music performances, displaying the best talent that the area has to offer.

The weekend will kick off with 'The Great Big Indoor Picnic', where guests are invited to bring their own picnics, with a prize going to the best decorated picnic spot. Live music will be on throughout the night.

Saturday's proceedings will begin at 11am, and will include live music from Casterton Choir Sing Joyfully as well as local group ukulele jukebox, who play adaptations of hit songs from over the years.

The Lunesdale Hall will then host a party in celebration of the Queen's ninetieth birthday, with memorabilia and music to celebrate the decades of her reign.

Throughout Saturday evening bands will play in the pubs around the town.

Another particular highlight of the festival is the music trail, which will take place on the Sunday. Back-to-back gigs will take place all afternoon in different venues.

David Sapsford, a Kirkby Lonsdale resident who helps organise the festival, said: "We are lucky here to have a thriving live music scene and lots of talented musicians.

"The idea behind the festival is to build up that local musical potential as well as raising money for charity and giving people a good time.

"We want to bring people to the town so that they can enjoy a weekend of local musical talent. We also hope to raise the funds to expand in the future and possibly bring in some names from further afield.

"It has been really well received over the past few years. It's hard work putting it all together but it is well worth it."

Tickets from the opening night must be paid for. Admission is free to all events on the Saturday and Sunday.

Proceeds from the festival collections will go to Oxfam to help Syrian Refugees. The festival takes place June 10 - 12.
